    Description

Offered is this vintage "Playbill" program from the second Broadway run of the play "They Knew What They Wanted", at the Empire Theatre during the week of October 2, 1939-see photos #2 & #3 for cast list. There is a "who's who in the cast" section as well as several short articles. The program is filled with great local and national ads for products like cars, cosmetics, clothing, cigarettes, whiskey and more, as well as a few for well-known stores, restaurants and nightclubs. Two of the ads mention the New York World's Fair-the Coty ad has a half-page photo of the Coty building at the fair, and the Schaefer beer ad has a small illustration of the company's Schaefer Center at the fair (see last two photos).
The program is in very good condition. I see no missing or torn pages and all are well-attached to the cover. There is a crease down the middle where it has been folded and a small spot on the cover where a label used to be. Forgive the bluish tint in some of the photos added by my camera; the pages are normal black and white, as seen in the last photo.
