    Description

    Bahamas 1968 $½ Specimen Bahamas Monetary Authority Pick 26s S/N C 000000 Young Queen Elizabeth II wearing King George IV's state crown; conch shell in underprint at center. SPECIMEN overprinted in red at a 45-degree angle / yellow elderflowers at left, two women examining baskets in the straw market; coat of arms at right. SPECIMEN overprinted in red. Watermark: Conch Shell Cancel holes at top right and bottom left This is the first issue of the Bahamas Monetary Authority. This unusual denomination was printed to correspond with the pound/shilling/penny British monetary system, i.e. /2 corresponded approximately to the 1/2 crown denomination, as the newly independent Bahamas rapidly changed to a decimal system.

    This is the first issue of the Bahamas Monetary Authority.
    This unusual denomination was printed to help the population change from a pound/shilling/penny British monetary system, i.e. /2 =1/2 Crown, as the newly independent Bahamas rapidly changed to a  decimal
    monetary
    system.
