PERU 1709 "1715 FLEET" 2 ESCUDOS PCGS 63 "1715 PLATE FLEET - RARE DATE" PERU 1709 2 ESCUDOS PCGS 63 “1715 FLEET” GOLD DOUBLOON COB SHIPWRECK TREASURE COIN
This LIMA PERU 1709 Gold Cob we sent to PCGS to get date corrected (which is now back and corrected). We know the date must be 1709 because the Assayer Cristobal Melgarejo “M” served his inaugural year in 1709. This nearly Perfectly round Planchet is has bright golden luster to it and displays nearly a FULL CROWN (highly desired). Also in the legends (at 9 o’clock) shows “REX” (KING) with nearly perfectly struck and bold Pillars (and L = Lima, 2, & M assayer). The Reverse has a Perfectly Centered CROSS and very detailed Lions & Castles (representing the Kingdoms Castile & Leon). You can clearly see the King’s Ordinal (Philipus V) in the legends and a portion of HISPARUM. A very flashy piece and a RARE DATE of 1709!!!X
