Simply Stunning!  This is a beautiful custom made US Port bit manufactured for a California customer by Gist Silversmiths in the USA.  This bit is not a bit made in China by Classic Equine licensed by Gist, but the REAL DEAL made with genuine Sterling Silver in Placerville, Califonia by Gary Gist's company!  The maker's mark "Gist" is located inside the upper left cheek above the mouthpiece as shown in the photos and the customer's name is lightly engraved on the lower left cheek.

This bit is is styled in Gist's crescent moon cheek style with raised berries.  The photos show the quality of the stunning engraving on the cheeks that measures 7-1/2 inches long with a 3 inch long purchase for a leverage ratio of 2.5 to one.  The mouthpiece is a medium 1-7/8 inch tall US Port and is made of black iron with copper inserts embedded in the back side of the mouthpiece for increased salivation and response.  The mouthpiece is showing some light signs of rust as most sweet iron mouthpieces will do unless oiled when stored.
The bit weighs in at 1 lb 4.31 ounces, so it is a bit more suited to a finished bridle horse or a horse that likes to pack a little weight.  This stunning perfectly balanced bit will make a great addition to your show bit collection and will look great in any show ring setting.
This is a collector's  quality bit with beautiful finishing fit, great balance, and attention to details which includes some of the most beautiful engraving I've ever seen on a Sterling Silver bit.
