    Description

    Vintage Collector aluminum heart hackamore horse bit;
    Don Ricardo
    Collector 1940's
    Pre-Owned
    Non-Smoking Home
    I have always had a soft spot for heart shaped horse tack! This is a very light weight vintage aluminum horse hackamore with a removable mouthpiece and leather nose band and chain
    The moving bridle connections still work. This bit could be used as horse tack or would make a unique and lovely decorator item.
    All vintage items contain blemishes and the lovely patina reflective of their age. There are the natural signs of use that can be expected with a vintage item of this nature. This item is being sold as it is.
    Maker’s Marks: Don Ricardo "R" on bit shank;
    The dimensions of this vintage collectible are:
    Bit shank width: 3.5 inches at the widest part.
    Bit shank length: 9 inches.
    Removable mouthpiece is 5.5 inches wide.
    Background:  The Ricardo Metal Manufacturers company was known for making fine western merchandise. They started making spurs in the 1930s in Denver, Colorado and later in Victoria, Texas. Ricardo is now considered to be one of the finest makers of Cowboy Spurs and their punchy spurs are highly collectible.
    Ricardo started making aluminum horse bits and spurs after Crockett introduced aircraft aluminum to the industry in 1938. Bits made of aluminum date back to 1940. Iron, nickel, brass, steel, and other metals were common bit metals prior to 1940.
