The word "fossilized" is actually a misnomer, as this bone has a similar origin to the Wooly Mammoth Tusk ....The stock comes from animals that have been frozen for long periods, eliminating the moisture & causing a kind of "freeze-dried" effect .....and with bone being slightly harder than ivory
