This is a rare pre-prohibition era Fred Koch Brewery "Bottle & Case Check" from Dunkirk, NY, which was brass token / coin.  It is slightly bigger than a quarter, but smaller than a half-dollar.
The token reads "Good for 40 Cents If presented with one dozen of our bottles and case".
Shown in the photos is a 1917 newspaper ad from The Dunkirk Evening Observer, which talks about the use of the token when purchasing the various Koch's products.
    Thanks for bidding!!
    History:
The Koch's brewery opened in 1888 and brewed beer, ale and porter.  They survived prohibition by making soda pop, while many other breweries folded during this era.
Koch's was "The tiny little brewery, where real beer was made" that was absorbed by a larger (Genesee) brewery ending a brewing tradition that Dunkirk, NY enjoyed for over 100 years!
It was one of the thousands of small community brewers that dotted the landscape and then disappeared in the face of competition from the major breweries.
Today these little companies would be called micro-breweries and they would be experiencing a resurgence. Since the brewery closed memorabilia has continued to become harder to find.
