This is a #43-32 smooth
mouthpiece offset dee ring snaffle bit made by bit and spur maker Greg Dutton of Los Lunes, New Mexico.  The bit is in clean, well maintained pre-owned condition with light rusting typical of iron bits.  This "Don Dodge" style bit is made with 3 inch diameter "D" rings and has a sweet iron mouthpiece that measures 3/8 inch by 5 inches wide.
The Greg Dutton Offset Dee Ring Smooth Snaffle Bit is a great bit for starting colts and is also show ring legal in most breed associations.  The direct cues of a two piece dee ring help a colt learn pressure and release as well as lateral movement. This is a great first ride bit before moving up to a leverage bit.  Communication is a two way conversation between you and your horse.  It includes actively listening as well as making requests.  The  bit is one of the main tools used in communicating with your horse.  From colts to older horses, they all have something they can teach us about the bits we use.
