    Description

Handmade Stainless Tractor Tine Pitchfork Shank Mullen Sweetwater Mouthpiece Bit
This is a heavy duty tractor tine or pitchfork shank bit very well made by hand.  The bit is made with 1/2 inch square stainless steel tractor tine rod shanks with a 5-1/4 inch wide sweetwater mullen mouth.  The stainless steel shanks measure 8 inches long with a 2-1/2 inch purchase for a 3.2 to 1 leverage ratio.
The Mullen mouth is a very mild bit, with an unvarying mouthpiece which means the pressure on the mouth doesn't change very much, as it is a fixed mouthpiece.  The bit puts pressure mainly on the tongue and lips with a slight tongue relief that also applies slight pressure on the bars,   The mullen mouthpiece provides extra space for the tongue, instead of constantly pushing into it like a straight bar making it more comfortable on the horse's tongue. This bit is generally considered a very mild mouthpiece, although this varies according to the leverage ratio, and improper use may make it harsh, since the majority of the bit pressure is applied on the sensitive tongue.
This is a great bit for softening an older, well broke horse that may be dull and unresponsive in the mouth.  This is a very solid bit that weighs 14 ounces.
