The Mechanics’ Mine (also called the Potzuba Mine) was located about one mile northeast of the old town of Sutter Creek, California in Amador County, within the Jackson-Plymouth Mining District of the Mother Lode gold belt. The lode mine was on the north side of Gopher Gulch. The gold-bearing ore vein was 3 to 5 feet thick, and the mine shaft was 240 feet deep with two levels of 100 and 200 feet that followed the veins.
