    in Pershing County, northwest of Lovelock
    (Seven Troughs district)
    . Gold was first discovered in the upper parts of Seven Troughs Canyon in 1905, and by 1907 a townsite was platted and a tent city soon followed. By the end of 1907 a small town was built, with a post office, saloons, hotel, stores and diners. The Seven Troughs district produced two million dollars in gold between 1907 and 1921. The mining camp of Seven Troughs was reported to have 5,000 miners and prospectors during the initial rush, but stabilized at several hundred residents once the initial excitement ended. By the 1920s the mines had declined and the town was abandoned.
