    Description
This is a pre owned lightly rusted Elongated 9 inch Calvary shank style #DD-21 sweet iron copper overlay lifesaver "donut" mouthpiece made by Greg Dutton of Los Lunes, New Mexico.  This unusual and rare Dutton bit features an ergonomically curved mouthpiece for relief that makes the bit sit comfortably in the horse's mouth.  A swept back Cavalry shank discourages the horse from playing with the shank.  This cheek allows for great balance to the bit and the shank length creates extra leverage communicating to the horse's chin and poll with a 9 inch long shank and 3 inch long purchase for a 3 to one leverage ratio.  This bit also has a rolling copper ring at the top of the port.  The lifesaver mouthpiece works by increasing concentrated tongue pressure as the bottom of the "donut" rotates into the tongue.  Please note, this bit is not show legal for many breed associations due to both the length of the shank and the lifesaver mouthpiece.  Please check your show association's handbook for clarification.
Greg Dutton is a custom bit maker based out of New Mexico.  Every bit is expertly hand made out of sweet iron and designed to specifically aid communication.
Communication is a two way conversation between you and your horse.  It includes actively listening as well as making requests.  The  bit is one of the main tools used in communicating with your horse.  From colts to older horses, they all have something they can teach us about the bits we use.
This bit will make a great addition to your working bit collection.
