Stock Certificate. Vermont Copper Mining Company Chartered in Vermont, 1853. Certificate and stub are dated 186-. Never issued. Black on white. About 12 1/2 x 8 inches. Attractive, fancy border, printing, girl with sheild, eaagle, ships and train in background. Nice piece of financial history from the Vermont Copper mining period. Mine opened in 1854 but really took off during and right after the Civil War when the demand for copper boomed, Smith Ely was one of the leaders, Vershie mine, children as young as 10 were employed at the mine.
