The Tenabo Mining and Smelting Company was formed in 1908 W. Mont Ferry, as president, who bought out the holdings of the Gem Consolidated Mining Company and Reliance Mining and Milling Company, in addition to the Little Gem mine, Copper Hill mine, and Two Widows mine at the mining town of Tenabo in Lander County, Nevada. Tenabo was established in 1907 following the 1905 discovery of gold near there on the eastern slope of the Shoshone Range, and by 1907 the population was over 1,000, supporting a wide range of businesses. By 1909, most of the mines were controlled by the Tenabo Mining and Smelting Company. However, by 1911 the cost of producing the ore became higher than the value of the ore. From 1907—1910, multiple productive mines kept a mill running, but after 1911, mining operations started to decline. The Tenabo Mining and Smelting Company sold all of its holdings in 1920, after producing 12 million ounces of silver and 25,000 ounces of gold, to the Tenabo Consolidated Mines Company.
