    MATCHING HORSEHAIR BRIDLE SET WITH FANCY REINS AND REIN EXTENDER / POPPER
    SILVER INLAID SNAKE BIT & HISTORICAL PROVENANCE
    It is rare to find an Antique completely handmade flat braided horsehair bridle set in fine condition, that is complete, with no damage, repairs, or alterations. This bridle set is all orginal with a brow band, the throat latch, reins and rein extender, and a hand forged silver snake bit. This Antique bridle is handmade from the shorter, finer, harder to weave hair from the horse’s mane. Horsehair from the horse’s tail is too thick, stiff, and brittle and will break easily; and is mostly used for mecates, which are horse lead ropes that are purposefully made to be prickly to help train young horses. This bridle, headband, and throat latch all black leather lined with hand stitched border edges. The 3 Bridle straps (1 top and 2 side straps) measured across the top from bridle loop to bridle loop is 46 1/2”. The top of the bridle is 1 3/4” wide with 12 rows of flat braiding, with the bridle strap and the throat latch braided together with a 1 3/4” x 1 1/2“ flat braided knot with 5 patterns and 3 colors securing them together. The 3 bridle straps are 1” wide. The top bridle strap is 31” from the end of 2 tassels measuring across the top. The top bridle strap is 7 rows of flat braided horsehair, 4 black and 3 black with white chevrons ending in 4 color braided thread knots on both ends. Each end of the top straps has (2) tassels, one black horsehair and one white horsehair, and each has a 3-color braided thread knot. There are 3 different sizes of buckles for the bridle, throat latch and bit ring holders. The 2 lower bridle straps are 14 1/2” from the top of the buckle to the end of the bit loop. The top of the lower side bridle straps have 2” x 1 ¼” nickel buckles at the top affixed with 4 pattern 3 color braided thread knots. The bottom of the lower side straps have a bit loop with 1 1/4” x 7/8” rectangular nickel buckles affixed with 4 color braided thread knots. The tips of the bottom lower side straps end with 4 color cotton thread ends.
    The throat latch is 3/4” wide. The measurement from top of the of bridle to bottom of the throat latch loop is 14 1/2". The top throat latch is 5 rows of horsehair flat braiding, 3 rows black, with 2 inside rows black with white chevron. Both ends have a 3-color braided thread connecting knots ending in 2” horsehair tassels with 3 color braided thread knots on both sides. The bottom throat latch strap is 5 rows of horsehair flat braiding, 3 rows black, with 2 inside rows black with white chevron, en suite. Each end has a 1 1/4” x 1” rectangular nickel buckle affixed with 4 pattern 3 color braided thread knots.
    The black horsehair brow band is 7/8” wide with 4 woven white strips and 2 small half round brass buttons and one center brass half round button. The throat latch ends with a 5 pattern 4 color flat braided knot to connect the 2 leather end bands. The brow band leather ends connect the bridle straps and throat latch straps and separates them with (2) 1 5/8” diameter x 1/4” nickel conchos on the outside that has a beaded border and the original sunburst leather backings.
    The matching round braided mane horsehair reins are 88” long, i.e., a double strand, with each rein being 44” long. The reins are 3/8” in diameter and made from black mane hair horsehair with a repetitive pattern of white horsehair chevrons. The reins have a 7 pattern 4 color cord 1 1/2” long knot near the pommel end loop, and also have 2 mid rein, 4 pattern 3 color cord decorations. The 2 single rein ends near the bit have 4 large horsehair tassels. Each rein has one white 3 3/4” horsehair tassel with a 3-color knot and a black leather sunburst skirt, and a black 3 3/4" horsehair tassel with a 3-color knot and a tan leather sunburst skirt.
    The 57” rein extender / popper is an unusual added decorative piece. Most poppers have a leather end used as a quirt to swat the horse’s hind quarter, so this piece is mostly for decoration, albeit a fine and painstakingly hand-woven accessory.  The end loop of the popper that connects to the reins as a rein extension is only 3/16” thick and made from black mane horsehair with small white chevron patterns and connected with a 3-color cord knot. The added-on rein extension / popper is 3/8” diameter, en suite with the reins, and has a 4 pattern 3 color cord mid knot and a 3 pattern 3 cord decorative mid knot. The end of the popper has 2 large 4” long horsehair tassels; the top brown hair tassel has a top knot in 3 cord colors with no skirt and the bottom black horsehair tassel knot is 4 pattern with 3 colors and a black leather sunburst skirt. The end of the popper has 3 separate tassels on the end of 3/16” diameter black horsehair strands with 3 ends horsehair tassels. The 3 end tassels are black, white and brown horsehair, and each has a 2-color cord braided top knot with a red sunburst skirt.
    The Antique hand forged silver inlaid snake bit is 9 1/4” long x 6 ¼” wide at the outer measurement of the silver cross hatched buttons. The Mardueno mouth bar has an inside measurement of 5 1/16” and has 10 copper inlays 1/8” wide, 5 on each side, on the bottom of the mouth bar that stimulate the horse’s tongue and helps to keep the horse’s mouth moist. The top of the bit has silver inlaid chevron patterns. The snake has silver inlaid chevron patterns as does the front mouth bar that has a 5 1/16” wide outside measurement. The snake has copper inlaid eyes and file worked scales behind the head. The 13” rein chains are original, as are the slobber chain and lipping chain. I only found a couple of small chevrons missing, and overall, the bit has untouched aged patina.
    This is a fine quality matching Headstall in fine condition with no damage, repairs or alterations, light use, and overall fine condition with lots of detail and eye appeal. It must have taken weeks of work to hand craft this exceptional horsehair bridle. The hand forged, hand silver inlaid snake bit has a nice naturally occurring aged patina to the silver inlays. Collectors love this fine, naturally occurring aged patina overall. Matching examples like this complete and matching set are extremely hard to find. As is typical, none of the pieces from South of the Border, down Mexico way, are Maker marked. This is an eye-popping wall hanger in a Western, Western Americana, Western Mexicana, Cowboy, Cowgirl, Vaquero, Bit, Bridle, Headstall, Old West, Horse man, Horse woman, Horse Trapping, Charro, Charrita, Folk art, Equestrian display, or kept as a fine Antique & conversation piece and keepsake investment. Circa late 1800’s to early 1900’s. Provenance: Belonged to Jake Solomon, superintendent of the Occidental mine in Virginia City, Nevada in the 1880’s. This piece was inherited by his grandson and gifted to a friend on November 8, 1967. A small typewritten note comes with this piece, with names of his grandson and later recipient.

    SELLER'S RETURN POLICY
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    eBay customers are protected when they are an eligible buyer, complete a purchase of an eligible item on a eBay's website, and purchase the item on eBay by using the "Pay Now" option, third-party checkout or an eBay invoice in one lump payment with a PayPal approved financial business. Buyers must keep their PayPal account in good standing. Buyers must show good faith conduct with the seller. Improper good faith conduct can include, but is not limited to, any means by which a buyer can attempt to unjustly benefit from the Seller's Terms & conditions or eBay's Buyer Protection plan. Moreover, good faith conduct does not include buyer's remorse, regardless of the reason. Returns will not be accepted such as changed my mind, found a better price, just didn't like it, Ordered by mistake, Arrived too late, etc. Returns will not be accepted and buyers will be reported to eBay when buyer makes
    false
    claims such as doesn't match description or photos, doesn't seem authentic, Doesn't fit, Wrong item sent, Missing parts or pieces, Doesn't work or defective, Arrived damaged. If you wish to take advantage of any of the issue resolution options available from the seller, you must have the business courtesy to discuss any potential issue within 3 days of receipt, and gain agreement with the seller prior to requesting a return through eBay, leaving feedback or initiating any online dispute process. By doing so, buyers commit to negotiate in good faith, and that they have not initiated any other form of resolution processing; including eBay / PayPal dispute process or credit card charge backs, or purchases where you have been or may be compensated by a third party. Possible buyer / seller resolution examples are: if seller and buyer agree that an item is significantly different than described and photographed, exchanging an item for a different item from the seller (whether listed or unlisted), credit from the seller against any current or future item, adjustment, trade, return, or any other arrangement that is mutually agreed upon between the seller and the buyer, and confirmed in writing via eBay's email system. These options are designed to expedite resolution of any potential issue quickly, easily and amicably, in lieu of eBay / PayPal on-line dispute resolution process which is lengthy, laborious, and allows decisions to be made by a 3rd party instead of the principals; i.e., the buyer & seller. Due to a myriad of International and U.S. Federal, State, Territory, County, City or Local law(s), ordinance(s), restrictions(s) or regulation(s), some articles shipped via U.S.P.S. may have restrictions and / or regulations that may apply to your article(s) shipped to a U.S. address. Buyers are responsible for knowing if any International, Federal, State, Territory, County, City or Local law(s), ordinance(s), restrictions(s) or regulation(s) may apply to your article(s) shipped to your ship to your address; and buyers are responsible for any loss if any prohibited or restricted item(s) shipped to your ship to address is confiscated for any reason. Any item returned must be pre-approved by the seller and received by seller within 7 days from receipt. If a buyer claims the item is damaged in shipping, it must send photographic proof on eBays email system, gain agreement with the seller, and item must be returned before buyer enters a feedback comment and before any exchange, credit or refund is issued. Buyer must use appropriate shipping, delivery confirmation and / or signature confirmation (items 0 ) and/or insurance at the buyers expense. Restocking fee, partial refunds and refunds are negotiable when buyers are dealing in good faith.
