Vintage Kurtis Rudelbach FG4 Banana Shank 3/8 dia x 5.5 inch wide Gag Snaffle Gamer BitDescription
This is a
VINTAGE COLLECTIBLE
thin 3/8 diameter sliding banana cheek gag snaffle bit made by Kurtis Rudelbach of Reno, Nevada in good pre-owned condition. This particular bit is made from plain steel and has some light rust on the snaffle and shanks. Kurtis Rudelbach started making bits and hackamores full time in 1976 and started numbering them in the late 1970's. This hackamore is stamped with his initials KR and the number FG4 which represents the style of "bit" or hackamore.
He is featured in the 1998 book " The Concise Guide to Contemporary Spur Makers" volume 2.
The shanks measure 5-1/2 inches in length, the length of the gag is 3 inches and the 3/8 thin snaffle mouthpiece is 5-1/2 inches wide. This unique gag features a sliding cheek that allows for natural flexion and lift in the shoulder. The bit should be adjusted to fit with one wrinkle at the corner of the horse's mouth. The sweet iron keeps the horse's mouth moist allowing the bit to move freely as designed.
This bit can be either gentle or harsh, depending on the hands of the rider. This is a high quality piece of tack hand made in the USA.
This is a very rare and difficult to find gag snaffle and will be an amazing addition to your tackroom collection
